Dresden | Overall Concept for Downtown Dresden

The new concept for the future development of downtown Dresden was conceived under conditions of less dynamic economic growth. The goal is to once again develop the city into one of the prettiest in Europe by filling the gaps created by urban planning measures of the socialist era. The central idea stems from preserving the protected urban landscape of the city core, the architecture on the banks of the Elbe river, and the panoramic view that became famous through Canaletto’s paintings.  While taking both the downtown and the city’s interwoven quarters into account, it became necessary to identify future areas of activity and focal points of urban development.
