Fürth | William-O.-Darby-Barracks

The premises of the William-O.-Darby-Barracks in Fürth were left by the US Army in the mid-1990′s resulting in an opportunity to develop the ca. 42 ha urban area: pp a|s was awarded first place in a competition regarding its new design. The site was developed into a residential and mixed-use area, taking into account the relationship between architecture at the turn of the century and today, while incorporating a large “Südstadt” park and effective connections to neighboring areas. The former barracks were ultimately converted into an urban quarter with particularly scaled spaces and a multitude of uses, whose orthogonal organizational concept was completed with newly conceived elements.
